National Prosecco Day, Friday 13 August
To celebrate National Prosecco Day we would like to introduce you to this magnum of fine, vegan Prosecco - Mabis, Biscardo Prosecco Spumante Millesimato, DOC, Veneto, Italy (150CL).
This will serve you very well (and probably make you a very popular guest!) on a camping trip, picnic or barbecue! This is tried and tested by us at Vegan Tipples (it's a tough job, but somebody has to do it...), and we definitely give it a huge thumbs up (and we may have a bottle or two chilling in the fridge ready for our camping expeditions this month too!)
The Biscardo Family have been making wine from their base in Soave for over 150 years and are currently led by brothers Maurizio and Martino.
During the course of Maurizio's long and illustrious career, he has consulted for well known wineries around Italy and in doing so he came across the vineyards for their Puglian wines. Both the Pugliese and Veneto wines are characterised by an almost dangerous drinkability, aromatic purity and exceptional value for money. Vines are planted at 3,500 to 4,000 rootstocks per hectare and the crop growing technique is typical for this area (with simple or double espalier). Only traditional pruning is used and the annual yield is about 100 tons of grapes. Harvest is handmade and, in order to avoid any skin or acetic fermentation, the grapes are immediately carried to the vinification cellar during the first hours of the day. Destalking and soft pressing at controlled temperature are the next two steps, where the must is kept in small stainless steel tanks until fermentation is completed. Fermentation is partially interrupted trough the cold-process, and the wine obtained is then transferred into small stainless steel tanks under nitrogen. Around 4 months after vinification, re-fermentation occurs in autoclave.
''An elegant, delicate and aromatic Prosecco with hints of apples and honeysuckle. Very easy to enjoy!"
Great value at £26.50.
It's cool for (vegan) cats...
One for all your cat lovers out there...It's International Cat Day on 8 August. What better way to celebrate than to open a bottle of this Felicette, Grenache Noir, 2020? This producer is proud to present wines inspired by the spirit of place - ‘L’esprit de lieu’. The wines of Terres Fidèles are created in the Roussillon and surrounding regions, a place of remarkable stories where layers of history and cultures are embedded in the raw and wild landscape. The grapes are harvested, de-stemmed and then either hot macerated to extract colour a beautiful dark red colour, and some are cold fermented to get the best possible varietal fruit extraction. The fermentation is then conducted at controlled temperature with gentle pumping overs to extract only the better tannins. The different pressings are then blended before Christmas and are aged in stainless steel tank to preserve fruit and round tannins.
This is a wine that you can enjoy its own, or pair with tomato-based pasta dishes and vegan Thai and oriental food: "A bright red colour with purplish reflections. A powerful nose of violets and red fruits. Very tasty in the mouth with raspberry and plum aromas. Medium-bodied on the palate, soft and juicy."
Just £9.25 a bottle.
