July Newsletter

'Blue July, bright July,
Month of storms and gorgeous blue;
Violet lightnings o'er thy sky,
Heavy falls of drenching dew;' (from July by George Meredith

This month, we bring you the brand new Vegan Tipples Summer Box of wines - your perfect accompaniment to the holiday season!

We're celebrating all things Shiraz and sparkling as well as turning our attention to cheese (vegan, obviously!) and wines, that most classic and enjoyable combination.

We select some of our favourite organic wines, and of course, we present to you our #VeganTipples Wine of the Month.

Our summer Vegan Tipples Wine Tasting events are taking place on 8 July (now sold out), 5 August and 2 September.

The tasting evenings commence at 7pm and are now taking place at our wonderful new venue at 24 Forth Street in the heart of Edinburgh.
For just £12 per ticket we will be tasting six gorgeous vegan wines, learning about and appreciating the different tastes.
The wines will of course be accompanied by some tasty vegan snacks! We really hope to see you there!

Try this trio of organic loveliness...
Each of these wines is from Bodegas Pinoso, which was set up as a cooperative in 1932 and the work carried out in the vineyards faithfully respects the traditions of their wine producers.  All grapes are grown within accordance to the strict rules around organic farming.  Each bottle is £10.75

Which will you try?

Vermador Blanco
This is an award winning wine perfect with those fabulous vegan, summer salads: "Clean and transparent with yellow pale tones and hints of green. Floral notes, with recollections of green, white and citric fruits like apple, pear, banana. Round with balanced acidity which scours the mouth leaving it refreshed with fruity and clean finish."

Vermador Rosé

This fantastic rosé pairs so well with vegan cous cous dishes, pasta and patatas bravas: "Very brilliant pink with smokey tones. Fruity aromas recalling strawberries and plums. Full fruity flavour, fresh, with a long retro-nasal persistence. The wine is sober and elegant as well as fresh and vivacious."

Vermador Tinto

If you're looking for a fine, organic red then Vermador Tinto is for you. This is a great wine to enjoy with aubergine dishes, lentil bolognose or Tapas: "Very brilliant crimson red with a purple border boasting the youthfulness of the wine. Rich aromas of red forest fruits and hints of spices. Well structured, powerful and balanced. Notes of black fruits seducing the palate. A wine which shows off its Mediterranean heritage."

Shiraz Day, 28 July
Looking for a gorgeous vegan Shiraz to appreciate for Shiraz Day on 28 July, or indeed, any day?!

We heartily recommend Cunning Plan Shiraz, McLaren Vale, Thistledown, 2021.

Ever since historic Scots, James Busby and John MacArthur founded the Australian wine industry in the early 19th century, the relationship between Scotland and Australia has been an enduring one. Guardians of this long history, Thistledown Wine Co. continues the tradition of Scottish ingenuity and great Australian wine. From their small-batch winery in the idyllic Adelaide Hills, they work with pristine fruit sourced from iconic vineyard sites.

This wine pairs well with stews and Asian food: "Great depth of ripe plum and blackberry fruit flavours. A full bodied wine with a succulent palate, lively spices and fine velvety tannins.."

Vegan Tipples Wine of the Month...

As you know, each week on our social media (see below for links) we bring you a Vegan Tipples Wine of the Week, recommending our pick of the week perfectly suited to the season.

Here we select one of those from the previous month to gain the coveted title of Wine of the Month!

This month it has to be Arrogant Frog Ribet Chardonnay/Viognier 2020.

This is a great value bottle given the quality of wine inside this cheeky little bottle!  It is an award winner too!

Elegant nose with aromas of tropical and stone fruits combined with a hint of toast and vanilla. Arrogant Frog was born in the Languedoc region of France. This Frog is typically French, but leaps out of the glass with New World attitude and style. Arrogant Frog is produced on the sunny hills of the Languedoc between the Mediterranean Sea and the Hérault valley by the Humble Winemaker.

A fantastic wine to enjoy with vegan sushi, with a vegan cheeseboard (so another great wine for wine and cheese day!) and fruit platters:  "Very elegant with aromas of tropical fruits, peach and white flowers and a hint of vanilla and toasted bread. Fresh and mellow with a long fruity finish."

Just £11.95.

Wine and cheese day, 25 July
Of course, we all know that being vegan does not mean you can't enjoy wine and cheese!  With such an incredible range of vegan cheeses to enjoy nowadays, wine and cheese day is the perfect opportunity to enjoy this wonderful combination of vegan food and drink!

To accompany your fine vegan cheese we recommend something rather special from us at Vegan Tipples, in the form of Delaforce Port, Real Companhia Velha.

The perfect accompaniment to a vegan cheeseboard, this white port isn't only destined for the Christmas table!  It can be equally enjoyed throughout the summer months.

Real Companhia Velha is the oldest wine company in Portugal, having recently celebrated 260 years of uninterrupted port production. Founded in 1756 by the King of Portugal, this company represents some of the finest Quintas in the Douro. Old but not out of touch, they have been able to preserve and honour the traditional winemaking while investing in the future with constant modernisation and experimentation in their vineyards.

This port is aged for around 18 months in stainless steel or concrete vats.

"Pale colour and medium sweetness. Pleasantly fruity bouquet which maintains its pale colour over a long period."

Just £14.99 a bottle, a port that punches well above its weight!
