Father's Day

It’s a day to celebrate all things ‘Dad’ on Sunday 20 June.  We have some helpful vegan gift suggestions for you that we’re sure the Daddy in your life will appreciate!

First up is Baccolo Rosso Veneto 2019.  Just £9.99 a bottle, this wine tastes as if it has a far higher price tag.  "Lots of sweet spice and ripe berry fruit aromas and flavours. Round juicy palate with a lovely richness coming from the partially dried grapes."

Of course, if you can't decide which red your deserving Dad would like best, you could always opt for a mixed case of red wines?  Just £60 for six quality wines:

Wrong Un Shiraz/Cabernet – ABV 14.5%

Rioja Alto – ABV 13.5%

Mont Rocher Malbec – ABV 13%

Santa Macarena Pinot Noir – ABV 14%

The Exhibitionist Merlot - ABV 14%

Passaparola Primtivo - ABV 13%

Or is your Father more of a whisky man?  If so, we have a fantastic range of vegan whisky to choose from.

For something really rather special how about this Kingsbarns Dream to Dram?  At £42.95 it is the higher end of the price range but we think it's worth every penny, and we're sure your Dad will agree! "Kingsbarns Dream to Dram is a light, intensely fruity, floral and balanced, with a rich colour coming from the high quality casks it has matured in. On the nose, there is banana, pineapple and summer berries, with a slight herbal note. The taste is soft toffee, custard pastry and redcurrants with a finish of ginger syrup."

Gin o'clock...

To help you get summer ready we have a very tempting range of vegan gins for your delight...

Please allow us to present to you three of our absolute faves from our friends at Pickering's Gin.

Pickering's Gin is made at a distillery located in the heart of Edinburgh and was the first exclusive gin distillery to be established in Edinburgh for over 150 years!  Believe it or not, this multi-award winning gin only came into being in 2013.
Let's take a look at three of our spring / summer favourites on offer from Vegan Tipples......

Pickering's Strawberry & Black Pepper Gin, £12
Decadently sweet and sumptuously fresh, this naturally coloured and flavoured gin is the perfect picnic playmate.
The unmistakable berry note on the nose leads to a vibrant strawberry taste on the palate and a spicy kick of black pepper on the finish.

Each bottle contains 20cl of brand new, delicately pink and decidedly moreish gin.

Pickering's Lemon & Basil Gin, £12
Squeeze the day with this delightfully refreshing naturally flavoured and coloured gin.
Initial lemon zing on the palate leads to a delightfully savoury and herbaceous finish with hints of real basil leaf.
Each bottle contains 20cl of brand new, irresistibly quaffable gin

Pickering's Forget-Me-Not Gin, £12
Roses are red

Forget-Me-Nots are blue

This new gin is perfect

As a tipple for two Perfect for gifting, this decadent citrus gin has subtle floral notes and an unmistakable Pickering’s Gin finish.

Delicate Forget-Me-Not flowers combine with heather for a lightly floral nose. Fragrant coriander, anise and fennel dance over the palate for Pickering's signature Bombay character. Lemon Myrtle adds a soft sweet citrus reminiscent of sherbet lemon and retro icing-sugar coated travel sweets.

What's so good about organic wine?

At Vegan Tipples we pride ourselves on presenting the right kind of wines from the right kind of producers, who strive to achieve a positive balance between the wines they create and the environment around them.

You may be wondering exactly what is different about organic wines.  Well, simply put, organic wine is made from organic grapes.   These grapes are not sprayed with harmful chemical pesticides, fertilisers or herbicides.   Another bonus when drinking organic wine is that it contains fewer sulphites (which can mean reduced chances of a headache the next day!) and more good news…it contains less added sugar.

Generally there are far less additives in a bottle of organic wine.  So there are many reasons to opt for an organic bottle of vegan wine.

Fortunately, we have a great range for you to choose from at Vegan Tipples

Presenting Lunaria wines - bottled biodynamic brilliance!

We are in love with these wines from the Lunaria winery.  Cantina Orsogna is an award-winning Abruzzo cooperative specialising in native grapes of the regions such as Montepluciano d’Abruzzo, Cococciola and Pecorino.  Orsogna are committed to the biodynamic principles by which they make their wine and have many certified Demeter biodynamic wines.

Cantina Orsogna was created in 1964 and is a cooperative of 450 partners.  It is the largest producer of organic and biodynamic wines in the south centre of Italy.  It has more than 1,100 hectares of vines, 80% of which are certified organic and 30% are certified biodynamic (biodynamic viticulture) by Demeter.  Cantina Orsogna has been certified biodynamic since 2005 and has been certified as an organic producer for more than 30 years.

Lunaria’s name comes from Luna (meaning moon in Italian).  This is because the biodynamic processes follow the phases of the moon.  The entire range uses sustainable paper and ink and each label shows an animal to create the link with nature.  Each animal represented on the label has the features associated with the wine, for example the Coste di Moro has a bull on the label because it represents a robust and strong animal as the wine itself shares those characteristics.

Which animal will you choose?
We have three to choose from, each priced at £15.90 a bottle:

Pecorino Civitas Biodynamic, Lunaria, 2018, 75cl
The squirrel...
This pairs well with vegan risotto: "A soft and pleasant wine with aromas of citrus, ripe pear, peach and orange blossom. The palate is clean and rich with a pleasing mineral complexity and a long finish."

Ruminat Primitivo Lunaria Biodynamic, 2020, 75cl
The deer...
Fabulous with vegan cheese and deli foods so a perfect picnic partner! "On the nose, aromas of black cherry and violets leap from the glass. The palate is soft and smooth with notes of sweet black cherries and blackcurrant fruits combined with notes of cinnamon and cloves supported by lovely soft tannins. Well balanced with a fresh acidity and a long, fruity finish."

Montepulciano Coste Di Moro Biodynamic, 2016, 75cl
The bull...
This bottle goes well with tomato-based pasta dishes, grilled & roasted vegetables, especially with aubergines: "The nose has intense aromas of red fruit and black cherry jam and light notes of cocoa complete its bouquet. The palate is warm, fairly tannic, soft, intense, with the typical almond finish."
