Father’s Day
Father’s Day is fast approaching on 19 June.   Wondering what to buy the special man in your life?
How about a rather lovely bottle of Bodegas Luis Canas, Rioja Crianza, DOCA Rioja, Spain, 2017? It’s something special at £16.25 and pairs beautifully with Tapas, Paella and vegan cheeses:
“Ruby red colour. A clean nose with notes of balsamic and fine nuances of plum and clean oak. Intense spice and oak on layers of velvety cherry fruit and a slight hint of licquorice. Lasting rich fruit flavours with smooth round tannins. Complex and structured. A pleasant finish with red fruits and hints of eucalyptus.”
Or perhaps whisky is more his favourite tipple?
Then how about this AnCnoc 12 year old whisky? It’s a very special bottle at £32.50 a bottle and would make a wonderful gift.
“Sweet to start with an appetising fruitiness and a long smooth finish. Light yet complex, smooth yet challenging. This is a dram that has something for everyone.”

With a very special long, bank holiday weekend coming up to start this month, we definitely recommend this magnum of Prosecco to toast Her Majesty.

Mabis, Biscardo Prosecco Spumante Millesimato, DOC, Veneto, Italy (150CL)

This represents fantastic value at £27.50 for the magnum!

“Elegant, delicate and aromatic Prosecco with hints of apples and honeysuckle. Very easy to enjoy!”

As well as being a wonderful aperitif it is really light and great to enjoy throughout the meal.

Drink Chenin Blanc Day, 18 June

With this incredible Simonsig Chenin Blanc, 2021 we think that drinking Chenin Blanc is a very good idea indeed! #DrinkCheninBlancDay

Simonsig are one of our favourite producers, with all of their wines and fizz we sell representing truly fantastic value for money.  At just £9.95 a bottle this wine, like all of the other Simonsig bottles we stock, really does punch well above its weight.

Golden delicious apples, pears and a light floral touch. Named after its dramatic views of the Simonsberg Mountain, the estate is situated in Stellenbosch, one of South Africa’s premier wine regions, 45 km east of Cape Town. At the helm are the Malan family, decendants of the French Huguenot Jacques Malan who first arrived in the Cape in 1688, although it was the late Frans Malan who pioneered much of what the company stands for today. The Malan family are one of South Africa’s most reputable wine producers. The three Malan brothers have passionate commitment towards quality and innovation:  “Aromas of golden delicious apples, pears and a light floral touch. The palate is brimming with honeyed tropical fruit salad flavours.”

Wine of the Month...
Every Friday at 5pm, we reveal the wine awarded the highly coveted title of 'Vegan Tipples Wine of the Week'! (Check out our social media - see below - to keep up to date with the weekly selections!)
Here we select the very best of the best as our Vegan Tipples Wine of the Month!
This month we present to you

The Grapesmith Die Kluisennar 2018
Roussanne ripens very rapidly and 2018 was no exception, with grapes harvested at 24.7° balling with beautiful body and texture. Grapes were harvested on 28 February 2018 from a vineyard high up on the cool south-west
facing slopes of Simonsberg, then cooled overnight in picking crates. The grapes were whole bunch pressed early the next morning with only the gentlest pressing in order to yield delicate juice with refined flavours. The wine was fermented naturally in 225 and 400 litre French oak barrels. A combination of 3rd fill and older barrels were used. The fermentation was quite warm to allow
the yeast to make abundant glycerol.
The wine spent a total of 11 months on the primary lees with occasional battonage to stir up the lees. No MLF was allowed.

Harvested on 22 February 2018 at 21° balling from a cool site overlooking False Bay. The grapes were cooled down overnight to 5°Celsius. Grapes were whole bunch pressed early the next morning with the juice taken directly into 225 and 400 litre French oak barrels for a spontaneous fermentation, utilising the yeast strains naturally occurring on the berries.

The wine was left in barrel with minimal interference, apart from stirring the lees and topping up when needed.

No malolactic fermentation was done, in order to preserve the primary fresh fruit aromas. Lower ripeness also keeps the alcohol low to balance the fuller and fatter Roussanne.

This blend is known to make some of the longest living white wines in France.
Something that was discovered is that often the half bottle left in the fridge for a day or two tastes even better with a bit of aeration. This type of wine is not so much about the primary grape aromas, but a lot of the pleasure comes from the structure, palate weight and texture of the wine with a touch of the elusive minerality.

Pairs beautifully with grilled dishes and vegan cheese:

"With a bright straw colour, Die Kluisenaar shows top notes of citrus blossom, lemon tart and baked apples followed by some toasted nuts and yeasty complexity. A focussed and well structured palate shows layered stone fruits with a touch of minerality. Well defined acidity contributes to beautiful length on this complex white blend. Die Kluisenaar will gain in complexity, depth and texture for several years."

This is something rather special and is therefore a little more expensive, but you won't be disappointed.
