May Newsletter

"If I could stay up late no doubt
I'd catch the buds just bursting out;
And up from every hidden root
Would jump a tiny slender shoot;
I wonder how seeds learn the way,
They always know the very day—
The pretty, happy first of May;
If I could stay up then, no doubt
I'd catch the buds just bursting out.'"

The First of May by Annette Wynne.

Dry, light, refreshing with some minerality. A beautiful pale green colour, intense lime and lemon aromas with a hint of flora, refreshing and zesty on the palate.”
Bella Modella Pinot Grigio Blush - here’s a wine just asking to be enjoyed as an aperitif or with salads & risotto: “This delicate rosé has deliciously strawberry laced aromas followed by a seductive palate of crisp, juicy, creamy fruit. Ideal sipped chilled on a summer’s day or coupled with lightly spicy foods.”

Two new wines...

We only sell wines that we really enjoy drinking ourselves, and we have exceptionally high standards!
So it is no mean feat for a new, vegan wine to be welcomed aboard the good ship Vegan Tipples!
This month we are particularly pleased to tell you all about two new additions to the Vegan Tipples family...
First up we have a wonderful new wine from one of our favourite producers, Simonsig Mr. Borio's Shiraz 2018.

This pairs really well with stuffed mushrooms and vegan pizza: "The wine has a vivid Persian red colour. Bursting berry fruit aromas of raspberries and black cherry comes alive in the glass with hints of strawberry sherbet and a subtle white pepper spice. A zippy acidity gives this medium bodied Shiraz a lovely freshness. The tannins are soft and well-integrated to round off this wine." Just £13.99 a bottle.

Our next incredible newbie is Bodegas Manzanos, Finca Manzanos Rosado, DOCa Rioja, Spain, 2020.

This is a wine which accompanies a wide-range of vegan food, including paella, tapas or vegetable or tofu kebabs: "Brilliant rosé colour. Bright strawberries on the nose with a very balanced palate and long finish." Just £10.49 a bottle.

National Moscato Day, 9 May

To celebrate Moscato Day on 9 May we'd like to tell you all about
Stella Bella, Pink Muscat, Margaret River, Australia, 2020

This boutique winery in the heart of Margaret River creates idiosyncratic named ranges like Suckfizzle and Skuttlebutt in a low interventionist and organic way keeping their approach as simple as possible to allow their cherished vineyards to show their quality.  It is not merely in the names where these wines are memorable, as once you have tasted them you will see why Luke Jolliffe, the winemaker, continues to receive recognition and awards from around the world for wines that have that wonderful Margaret River restraint and elegance, but are bound together with a fruit purity that makes them delectable.

The Muscat grapes are hand picked then cooled before crushing in the press and remain on their skins for around 6 hours to extract colour and flavour. After pressing, the juice is settled bright, and then fermented at approximately 12 degrees c with an aromatic yeast strain. When the desired alcohol level is reached, the fermentation is stopped by rapid cooling in order to maintain the natural grape sugars and the carbon dioxide gas evolved during the fermentation process. Bottling occurs in May of the vintage year, in time for a spring release.

A wonderful accompaniment to vegan cheeses:
"The wine has an immensely appealing bouquet of rosewater and Turkish Delight, intertwined with orange blossom and musk. The spritzy palate is brightly fruity, displaying fresh strawberry and Turkish Delight flavours, combining zesty fresh acidity to deliver a supple, fresh and delicate finish."
£12.25

This is a really beautiful wine perfect with Asian dishes and risotto: "Aromas of ginger spice and ripe peaches and apricots. Rich juicy palate with a clean zesty finish."
