"Happy drinking!"
It's cosy season, and we have just the wines to pair with those hearty stews, divine vegan roast dinners and vegetable soups...
Baccolo red - The Cielo family have been delivering great Italian wines since 1908, innovating local, traditional wines. This wine is made with partial grapes over maturation, a traditional Venetian technique called Appassimento. Lots of sweet spice and ripe berry fruit aromas and flavours. Round juicy palate with a lovely richness! £12.25
Cunning Plan Shiraz - Masters of Wine, Giles Cooke and Fergal Tynan, founded Thistledown Wines in 2010 after discovering iconic vineyard sites in the McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills. They make handmade, small batch wines that perfectly illustrate the benefits of great sites and intelligent, minimalist winemaking. Winner of The Wine Advocate 92 Points. The 2023 Cunning Plan Shiraz is vibrant, high-toned and floral, with attractive red and purple fruits, energetic acid and tannins that feel embossed into the very experience. £18.25
Patch Montepulciano - Cantina Orsogna was founded in 1964 by a small group of producers, currently it has become a cooperative of almost 500 members. The 1100 ha of vineyards are located at an altitude of 432m, enjoying a peculiar position and a particularly favourable climate for organic farming. Intense ruby red with slight purple hues, tending towards garnet with age. Aromas of red fruits, spices, intense, ethereal. Full, dry, harmonious, rightly tannic. £12.75
Pinotage Day
One of our very favourite wines is celebrated this month, and we have two incredible wines to recommend...
Simonsig 'Pick Of The Bunch' Pinotage 2022 - Named after its dramatic views of the Simonsberg Mountain, the estate is situated in Stellenbosch, one of South Africa's premier wine regions, 45km east of Cape Town. At the helm of the Simonsig wines are the Malan family, one of South Africa's most reputable wine producers. This fruit delicious forward Pinotage displays a dark crimson colour. Bursting with sappy red berry fruit such as red cherry and raspberry, there is a touch of sweet spice that creates interest. £16.95
Painted Wolf Wines 'The Den' Pinotage 2023 - Painted Wolf Wines is a boutique family business and conservation supporter. They work with top growers in a number of key appellations in South Africa, sourcing organic or sustainably farmed grapes. Conservation is key to their business and they donate around 4% of revenue to African wild dogs (Painted Wolf) and other conservation concerns. Medium-bodied with ripe boysenberry and mulberry, savoury spice, chocolate and toasty wood flavours, leading to a bright, crisp finish. £13.75
Wine Of The Week
Salice Salentino Riserva DOC 2019 - This has a bit of everything you want in a red wine: plenty of ripe and juicy berry fruit, but all balanced by well-judged oak, pleasant tannic structure, enough acidity to keep things fresh and some bottle age for added complexity. Perfect to pair with a pasta dish! £15.25
West Highland Spirits
Small batch spirits made in Scotland. An extension of their existing Loch Lomond Brewery, West Highland Spirits have decided to create a range of spirits in house using local ingredients where possible with the same skill and dedication that has seen them crowned as champion brewers year after year.
The vodka is crisp and clean like the fresh snow sitting upon the mountain tops.
Their Single Malt Gin takes citrus and spice to a new level thanks to their Scottish barley based wash that brings added dimensions of warm biscuity cereals and a slight smoky finish.
The Scottish Raspberry Gin has all the flavours of a Scottish dry gin with the citrus and spice working in harmony with the full on juicy fruit burst thanks to the finest Scottish raspberries. £38 each
