September Newsletter

But we're not quite ready to put summer to bed yet, or to be thinking about the festive season ahead, so in this newsletter we'll be introducing you to a very exciting new addition to our vegan gin catalogue, and celebrating some special vegan wines as part of some international days throughout the month...

New gin alert!
We are so excited about this new Pickering's gin...
Pickering's make Pickering’s Gin in the distillery we built themselves, from scratch, in the heart of Edinburgh.

When they opened Summerhall Distillery, it was the first exclusive gin distillery to be established in Edinburgh for over 150 years.

This tartan-clad Pickering's Gin with Scottish Botanicals is distilled with four indigenous Scottish botanicals- heather, milk thistle, bog myrtle and Scots Pine which lend sweet, earthy and floral notes to their Bombay recipe, for a smooth and stirring spirit.

This complex gin has been wowing crowds and collecting medals since it was released back in 2017 as the Official Gin of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

"Delicately floral with a definite punch of lemony citrus. Dominant pine notes flood the nose with earthy heather follow on and underpin the energised juniper.  Emerging sweetness shines through to reveal a delicately smooth finish."

Around the world, around the world...
Some wine-related International Days are coming up this month which we definitely feel are worth celebrating!  Cheers...
International Cabernet Day - 2 September
Cartlidge Browne Cabernet Sauvignion

Possibly the original 'garagiste' in California Tony Cartlidge started his winery in an undistinguished Napa Valley garage.
With no money to buy vineyards, and seeing no reason to, he set out to source the best possible grapes to handcraft his wines in his garage. 30 years later and Cartlidge & Browne is renown for high quality wines and decent prices, sticking to their garagiste roots of taking a different path.  Grapes are sourced from across the region - giving the flexibility to produce wine from the finest vineyards in California - Sonoma Coast, Mendocino and into the Sierra Foothills.Harvested from the warmest parts of Lake County and the Alexander Valley for optimal richness, the Cabernet Sauvignon is then aged in French oak for 8 to 10 months.

"This Cabernet starts out with rich, delicious red fruits on the nose that flows into cherry, watermelon, candied plum and crème brûlée. The soft, yet fine, tannins have notes of coffee, rose petals and wet slate."
£15.99

International Port Wine Day - 10 September
Delaforce White Port

Real Companhia Velha is the oldest wine company in Portugal, having recently celebrated 260 years of uninterrupted port production.
Founded in 1756 by the King of Portugal, this company represents some of the finest Quintas in the Douro. Old but not out of touch, they have been able to preserve and honour the traditional winemaking while investing in the future with constant modernisation and experimentation in their vineyards.
Their port is aged for around 18 months in stainless steel or concrete vats without oak treatment.

"Pale colour and medium sweetness. Pleasantly fruity bouquet which maintains its pale colour over a long period."
£14.99

International Grenache Day - 17 September
Thistledown Gorgeous Grenache

Ever since historic Scots, James Busby and John MacArthur founded the Australian wine industry in the early 19th century, the relationship between Scotland and Australia has been an enduring one.Guardians of a long history, Thistledown Wine Co. continues the tradition of Scottish ingenuity and great Australian wine.
From their small-batch winery in the idyllic Adelaide Hills, they work with pristine fruit sourced from iconic vineyard sites crafting lithe, energetic wines that illustrate the benefits of great sites and intelligent, low-intervention winemaking.
With a particular passion for Grenache they have a unique blend of superb fruit sources and experience in both the New and the Old Worlds to craft wine of subtlety, texture and detail – wines perfectly suited to complement rather than overwhelm fine food. In one of the most geologically diverse regions in the world, Grenache thrives but has not always been valued – until now.Sourced from a single, old vineyard that is approximately 70 years old. Trained more like trees than bushes, these venerable old vines produce beautifully balanced fruit with subtle flavours.  The fruit is hand-picked and delivered to the winery where it is crushed and left on skins for just 3.5 hours before pressing off - this ensures the very pale, delicate colour. It is then settled and fermented cool to capture the vibrant, tangy, fresh fruit character.

"A pale yet vibrant pink, the aromas are all wild strawberries with hints of citrus. The palate is crisp and dry with tangy raspberry scented fruit with a mouth watering, moreish finish."
£13.50
