About
La Contessa, a wine producer, is situated on a small square of land, sheltered by centuries-old oak forests, on the slopes of Montenetto. Here, vine cultivation and grape growing for winemaking date back to the early twentieth century thanks to sharecroppers.
Now, Capriano del Colle is one of the smallest Italian DOC zones, with a history of red wine production. In 2009, Alessia Berlusconi, an entrepreneur with a wealth of experience in other sectors yet a wine lover at heart, found the perfect place here to develop her winemaking project. In September 2014, the company gained organic viticulture certification: "the road may be long but we are travelling it with conviction to make fine wines, a genuine expression of the land with the utmost respect for the environment and biodiversity".
The grapes come from south-facing vineyards, planted on on clay/marl
soil. They were pressed straight after harvest and then fermented in
stainless steel at 18-20ºC. The wine is unoaked and was bottled after a
few months’ maturation in tank
