Canto Do Pedro Reserva Old Vines, Fiuza 2023
About
The Mascarenhas Fiuza family has been dedicated to winemaking for over a century. The company started its activity at the beginning of the 20th century and remains family-run to this day, now in its third generation. Mr. Joaquim Mascarenhas Fiuza, son of D. Luísa Mascarenhas (sister of the 10th Marquis of Fronteira and 9th Marquis of Alorna) started producing wine with his uncle on the properties of the Mascarenhas Fiuza Family, who has had estates in the region for centuries. In 1986, Joaquim Mascarenhas Fiuza established a partnership with prestigious Australian winemaker Peter Bright.
Fiuza grows the main portuguese grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Arinto, Fernão Pires or Alvarinho and also some of the main French grape varieties such as Alicante Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc.
Canto do Pedro is the name of one of their vines in Bairro terroir. It is their oldest vineyard planted 35 years ago with French and Portuguese varieties. On the vineyard, there is a hundred year old solitary cork oak that was the inspiration to create the label.
