About
It was 1904 when Carlos Domingo Traversa and his parents arrived in Uruguay
The son of Italian immigrants, he spent his youth as a vineyard worker and in 1937, together with his wife, María Josefa Salort, he was able to purchase 5 hectares of land in Montevideo, in a region providing optimum conditions for growing vines. In 1956, he founded the winery aided by his children Dante, Luis, and Armando. It is them and his grandchildren who proudly keep his dream alive today. A member of the family supervises the maintenance of existing plantations, new plantings, the wine making, bottling and distribution processes, marketing, and customer service.
As part of their sustainability policy, they create grape marc compost. By using it in the vineyard, and therefore minimize the use of inorganic fertilizers. To decrease soil erosion and nutrient loss, as well as to increase the presence of beneficial insects and microorganisms, the entirety of their vineyards use natural plant covers and species planted between the rows of vines.
Familia Traversa premium wine line is produced using the best grapes from the vineyard located in Paso Cuello, Canelones.
