Chateau Maison Blanche Grand Cru, Yvorne 2023
About
Château Maison Blanche is one of the most prestigious wine estates in Switzerland
dating back to 1573. Based in the village of Yvorne in Vaud area, it has been owned by the Schenk Family since 1930. Winemaker Thierry Ciampi makes the wines of the estate with a deep respect for its terroir and outstanding history. In accordance with a hundred-year-old tradition, the wines are all made in large oak barrels.
Yvorne is an historical and meeting place situated on the Rhone course. The village is small but it is extremely renowned for its wines grown on well facing hillsides. The terrace vineyard of Château Maison Blanche covers 7.5 ha. The hillside is very sloping here, with an incline up to 35 or 40%. In 1584 a collapse turned upside down the geology of the Yvorne vineyard. Till this date it was homogeneous, on a Trias limestone base. In the collapsed part a huge mass of rocks were moved, making a very complex patchwork. The soil there is very gravelly (stone 60 to 70%) mixed with the rich alluvium and sediments coming from the erosion of the Alps rocks.
